Abstract
In this chapter, we discuss how social work engages with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) people as service users. We also describe notable inequalities, with a concentration on health/social care and policy inequalities. There are a range of ethical challenges that arise when researching LGBTQ+ people's lives, and these are explored. The chapter includes a section from an LGBTQ+ person with lived experience about co-produced social work research. Finally, we outline suggestions for future directions in social work research exploring LGBTQ+ people's lives.
