Abstract

Despite advances in medical and revascularization therapies, myocardial infarction remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cell therapy is emerging as an aiding strategy designed to advance the treatment of heart disease through promotion of cardiomyocyte regeneration and stimulation of reparative angiogenesis. This issue of Pharmacology and Therapeutics collates expert reviews on special achievements in basic research and clinical exploitation, which underline the prospective value of stem cells in cardiovascular medicine.
