Abstract

This chapter examines the evidence for drinking and the symposium in Sappho’s poetic oeuvre. By contrast to her Lesbian poetic contemporary, Alcaeus, Sappho rarely touches on these topics. Nevertheless, references do exist, and when they are considered as a group, certain patterns emerge.
