Symposium - Researching Learning Beyond School – Concepts, Methods, and Collaboration. Convened by Jo Rose

Research output: Contribution to conferenceOther Conference Contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This symposium arises from the collaborative process of writing a book (Rose et al, 2022) on methodological challenges and possibilities for researching learning beyond school. The book comprises several case studies of research on out-of-school learning, followed by thematic, critical reflections on the case studies overall. In the symposium we will discuss four separate, but interlinked, topics that we reflected on during, and after, the writing process. The first conceptualises the field; the second considers what it means to be a researcher in this field; the third discusses how the dialogic process of writing pushed and developed our thinking about the field; and the fourth considers how methodological ideas from this book can inform future research.
