Abstract
This chapter investigates the commentaries on Sophocles’ Oedipus the King by the Byzantine scholars Maximum Planudes, Manuel Moschopoulos, and especially Thomas Magister; it looks at several passages in Thomas’s commentary, analysing the distinctive features of his approach and arguing that his work should not be neglected by scholars today.
