Abstract

The bladder diary is an important component of assessment for lower urinary tract symptoms, elucidating factors particularly relevant to overactive bladder syndrome and nocturia, and guiding management. The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire bladder diary (ICIQ-BD) is validated and incorporates information about Drinks Amount, Drinks Type, Urine Output, Bladder Sensation using a bladder sensation scale provided in the diary) and Pads. Ensuring that best use is made of the diary requires proper information provision for the patient in advance of completing it, checking the diary with the patient after completion, training staff in simplified analysis, and familiarity with detailed analysis.
