Abstract
This is the second of two articles examining the documentary evidence of Bristol’s makers of the portable street barrel piano in the nineteenth century. In GSN 62, Part 1 concentrated on the Hicks family whose name is commonly associated with such instruments and their immediate associates; here, we attempt to account for any remaining craftsmen. As with the earlier article, our notes have been derived from
multiple documented sources: census returns, the registers for births, baptisms, marriages and deaths, street directories, etc.
