The Evolution of Neurons

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter in a book

Abstract

Any examination of neuron evolution comes up against the question of how to recognise a neuron. In this review the focus is on what neurons do as opposed to what they "are". Restrictions based on structure are avoided. However the primary role of a neuron is "communication and integration", a function that depends on an electric field generated by a precise anatomical structure.
