ABSTRACT
The article critiques the fifteenth-century poem "The Storie of Asneth," by an anonymous poet, particularly commenting on speculations about the commission of the poem and the relationship between the poet and the commissioner. It addresses the poem's place in contemporary religious and literary studies, the potential for fictionalized relationships, and the importance of the patron's identity to the meaning of the poem.
