Abstract
The paper describes the development of the application of thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) to composite materials. The review covers the early developments of the approach, a detailed discussion of the equipment used, as well as an appraisal of the current status and the prospects for future developments. Work on coupon type specimens up to full scale testing is described and includes applications to sandwich structures and adhesively bonded joints. The review demonstrates the capability of TSA as a tool for validating computational models and assesses the outlook for applying TSA to in service structures
