Abstract
This article is meant as a review to the opposing theories to the traditional educational perspective. It is a revisit of the principles of critical educational theories, driven by the contexts of the contemporary world, where the rational of emancipatory interest is displaced --from school and the education system-by economic conceptualisations concerning the development of an educational activity: effective, efficient and sufficient in meeting the world instrumental pragmatic knowledge that is imposed on the school. Critical educational theories seek to evidence the industrialised school and the consequences of the action of constitutive interests of technical knowledge that interfere with the education, transforming the school into a utility. This article covers the contributions of critical theory and the School of Critical Studies of Frankfurt in its two periods, as well as the critical theories of reproduction, resistance and education for autonomy proposed by Freire
