The present article aims to serve as a much-needed reference work, providing a concise summary of the sociolinguistic situation in Catalunya Nord supported by relevant statistics. It will focus on the contemporary sociolinguistic situation in the Pyrénées-Orientales, examining recent developments and their impact on language use, most notably in the field of Catalan-language immersion education. Finally, based on a critical analysis of recent developments in the region, as well as my own research regarding other Catalan-speaking communities, a series of questions will be proposed which may provide interesting insight into a relatively under-examined linguistic situation.
