Abstract
This book will fill a significant lacuna in current understandings of the nature and prevalence of forced marriage (FM), a growing and urgent problem, and will contribute to ongoing debates regarding prevention and protection responses to this crime. In doing so, it seeks to improve outcomes for victim-survivors. It will be the first book-length study of FM that is both conceptually grounded and empirically informed, examining not only the nature of the crime but also the responses to it across a range of affected communities in the UK, including South Asian, Kurdish/Middle Eastern and Somali communities. The book will also provide the first systematic examination of Forced Marriage Protection Orders (FMPOs) and offer original insights into how these mechanisms might be utilized in other contexts and jurisdictions.
