Abstract

An improved form of video extensometry has been developed using the simple technology of CCD cameras. The system is capable of tracking multiple targets at high speed with sub-pixel accuracy using interpolation algorithms. Output in the form of the (x, y) location of each target is available, ensuring that the applicability of the system is not just for uniaxial testing, but for many other forms of experimental strain analysis and displacement measurement. Examples of the use of the system are included: uniaxial testing of low and high modulus materials, shear strain measurement in adhesive joints and displacement measurement of long span bridges.
