Abstract
We show numerically that vector antenna arrays can generate radio beamsthat exhibit spin and orbital angular momentum characteristics similarto those of helical Laguerre-Gauss laser beams in paraxial optics. Forlow frequencies (≲1GHz), digital techniques can be used tocoherently measure the instantaneous, local field vectors and tomanipulate them in software. This enables new types of experiments thatgo beyond what is possible in optics. It allows information-rich radioastronomy and paves the way for novel wireless communication concepts.
