Abstract
When I say positionality to health professionals who are new to qualitative approaches to medical education research, they often struggle to grapple with this concept. When I say positionality, I am asking novice researchers to turn the positivistic conception of objective reality on its head. This is often a challenge because positionality is not common practice in the realm of positivist research. It means rethinking assumptions about how to approach research. Health professionals engaging in qualitative research are required to reflect upon their positionality because it plays a crucial role in shaping their research journey. However, it is often an under-explored aspect of medical education research.
