Education in South Korean (hereafter Korean) schools has changed in response to the emergence of a knowledge-oriented society and technology-intensive environment; more attention is now being given to how students learn and construct knowledge with each other within a social process incorporating digital technologies and tools. This study investigated how a knowledge-creation-oriented activity involving collaborative group work on the development of digital video clips (knowledge objects) played out in two Korean secondary schools. Group and teacher–student interaction were explored via a multi-level approach linking the micro-interactional level in the classroom with macro-level sociocultural and institutional factors.
