An integrated approach to bat convservation: applications of ecology, phylogeny and spatial modelling of bats on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset

Abstract

In response to the increasing loss of global biological resources there is an urgent need to identify and monitor all aspects of biodiversity. Tackling these challenges involves developing new approaches that integrate the many different fields of specialisation which occur in the field of biology. Combining techniques will lead to better informed management decisions in the future because more information on a species' ecological requirements will be provided. By studying bat communities on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, this study presents examples of how using different techniques at various times of the year can provide new information on the ecological requirements of different populations.
