Abstract

5203 L $$aThis dissertation investigates teacher motivation in a language-teaching department of a Japanese university. The main objective is to contribute to the overall understanding of the nature of teacher motivation. It is hoped that this understanding will be enhanced by two further objectives: firstly, to show how teacher motivation can be dependent on the teaching context, and secondly, to relate teacher motivation to the work/market/status categorisation proposed by David Lockwood (1989).
