The main objective is to contribute to the overall understanding of the nature of teacher motivation. It is hoped that this understanding will be enhanced by two further objectives: firstly, to show how teacher motivation can be dependent on the teaching context, and secondly, to relate teacher motivation to the work/market/status categorisation proposed by David Lockwood (1989).
