Research interests

As an interdisciplinary social scientist, Jonathan's research spans international business management, economic geography and migration studies. Current research focuses on:

  • BREXIT and the competitiveness of the City of London;
  • the global mobility of talent (expatriation, assignments and business travel) and highly-skilled international labour migration;
  • the internationalization of global executive search and private wealth management firms; and,
  • global wealth and super-rich capitalism

Jonathan has published widely in the leading social sciences journals (e.g. Environment and Planning A, Global Networks, the Journal of Economic Geography, and Regional Studies) and his latest research monograph examines, The Globalization of Executive Search (Routledge). His research has been funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Economic and Social Research Council, British Academy, Nuffield Foundation, Leverhulme Trust and, The Alfred Sloan and Anglo-German Foundations. The impact of his research has informed H.M. Treasury, The Corporation of London, the Regional Government of British Columbia, Canada, Abu Dhabi’s Economic Development Council and the (2011) Independent Commission on Banking.

Jonathan is currently an Assistant Editor of Global Networks, on the Editorial Board of Mobilities and has been on the Editorial Boards of Geoforum and the Journal of Contemporary European Studies, and is a member of the ESRC's Global Challenges Research Fund peer review college.
