Through the AIMS Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning I led a number of projects that developed and evaluated innovative approaches to teaching physiology and histology.  These included physiology teaching using high fidelity human simulators. We are one of a small number of centres worldwide to be developing this approach for ‘pre-clinical’ medical sciences teaching.

Other projects include the creation of on-line resources for physiology laboratory-based teaching through the e-Biolabs system and the development and evaluation of histology teaching delivered using the ‘virtual’ microscope. Other interests include developing and evaluating the use of peer assessment in the undergraduate curriculum, particularly for laboratory-based work; the incorporation of e-voting into large group teaching settings; and the development of undergraduate research projects in collaboration with local schools through the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme.
