Convergent evolution at the morphological level is generally considered a consequence of adaptation to a common lifestyle.  Convergence also happens at the molecular level, but the extent of this is unclear.  I my research I hope to understand the forces that underpin molecular convergence and how it should be measured, and to develop a framework for the 'Laws of Convergence'.

I aim to investigate how common convergence is in molecular datasets, whether it is more common within certain lineages, whether specific parts of the genome are more prone to convergent evolution, and to what extent adaptive evolution underpins the origin of molecular convergences.
